+ When do the Lehigh Gorge trains run?
Trains run from February 16 through December.
In October trains run weekdays at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm.
In October on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, and 4:00 pm.
Santa Claus Special train rides run at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm, 3:30 pm on weekends from November 29 and end on December 22.
Winter Character train rides run at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm on December 26 through December 30.
+ Do trains run rain, snow, or shine?
Yes, the trains will run regardless of the weather. If advanced tickets were purchased, and you cannot ride due to poor weather conditions, you may exchange your tickets for a future trip by contacting 570-325-8485.
All unused tickets are good forever, call 570-325-8485 for additional information.
+ Can tickets be refunded?
Tickets can be used for other trips in the future if the entire ticket with stub is given to a member of management or a ticket agent.
Tickets that only have one stub remaining will not be accepted to exchange for future trips.
If the future trip is a different, more costly trip, the ticket may be exchanged with you paying the difference.
A ticket purchased is good forever until exchanged for a different trip.
Tickets must be treated as cash.
+ Can tickets be purchased online?
No, tickets can simply be purchased the day of the trip at the ticket window in Jim Thorpe, or tickets can be bought in advance over the phone for any special excursions (Depending on ticket availability) with the exception of trips leaving out of Jim Thorpe in October.
+ Where does the LGSRY train go?
The regularly scheduled trains leave downtown Jim Thorpe and parallel the Lehigh River north into the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park. The train ride is approximately 16 miles round trip, and returns back to downtown Jim Thorpe.
+ How long does the Regular Lehigh Gorge train ride last?
The train ride is 70 minutes in duration with the exception of October, when train rides are 45 minutes due to increased popularity and demand. The train ride continues to offer beautiful colors and scenery of the Lehigh Gorge State Park with condensed trips in October.
+ What Time does the 1:00 o'clock train depart?
At the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, we pride ourselves for on time passenger train departures. Due to the fact that Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway operates regularly scheduled trains, every effort to adhere to our advertised schedule is maintained and unless there are extenuating circumstances beyond our control, the 1:00 o'clock train (and all scheduled trains) will leave on time.
+ How much are train tickets for the Regular Lehigh Gorge Trips?
Standard Coach (Windows): LGSRY trips cost $15 per adult, $9 per child (ages 3-12), Children 2 years old and under ride with a free ticket.
Open Air Coach: LGSRY trips cost $19 per adult, $10 per child (ages 3-12), Children 2 years old and under ride with a free ticket. The Open Air Coaches run on our trains from May through October.
+ What is Standard Coach? What is Open Air?
Standard Coach is a passenger car with bus style seating and windows that open and shut. Seats can face each other, each seat can hold 2 people comfortably.
Open Air is a passenger car that has a roof over the top, a bench that runs down the middle, and the sides of the train car are completely open. People can get up and walk around or stand in this coach to look at the passing scenery.
+ Are there restrooms available on the train?
Yes, restrooms are available on all trains. We pride ourselves on clean restrooms, please let us know if our restrooms are not up to your expectation.
+ What is the caboose? Can I purchase tickets for the caboose?
The caboose will be the last car on the train consist on the way out of Jim Thorpe and the first car against the locomotive on the way back to Jim Thorpe. Tickets are available in this car from May through September. The caboose is limited to one family or set of friends of up to six people per trip, cost $99.00.
+ What is the gondola car? Why is it on the LGSRY trains?
The Gondola Car is an open topped low side-walled rail car suitable for carrying cargo. The Gondola Car is part of all regularly scheduled LGSRY trains, except days when bike train excursions are scheduled, on which (for an additional $5.oo) you load your bike, ride the train to Old Penn Haven, unload your bike and ride the scenic 8 mile trail along the Lehigh River back to Jim Thorpe, PA. Tickets are available in this car from May through September on days the 25 mile White Haven Bike Trains do not operate.
+ Where does the Hometown High Bridge train go? How long does it last?
The Hometown High Bridge train runs out of downtown Jim Thorpe Train Station during the first three weekends of October. The train passes through Nesquehoning and two large lakes. The finale of this excursion is the view from the impressive 1,168 foot long Hometown High Bridge which stands 168 feet above the Little Schuylkill Creek. The train then returns to downtown Jim Thorpe, a distance of over 30 miles round trip. The Hometown High Bridge train excursion is just over 2 hours round trip and a Fall Foliage favorite of many.
+ How much are train tickets for the Hometown High Bridge Trips?
Standard Coach (Windows): Hometown High Bridge trips cost $25 per adult, $15 per child (ages 3-12), Children 2 years and younger are free with complimentary ticket.
+ When do the Hometown High Bridge trains operate? When can tickets be purchased?
Hometown High Bridge trains ONLY operate on weekends in the month of October from the Jim Thorpe station to the Hometown High Bridge and return. Tickets can simply be purchased the day of the trip in Jim Thorpe, no advanced sales.
+ WHAT IS THE 25 MILE WHITE HAVEN BIKE TRAIN? HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? WHEN DO THE BIKE TRAINS OPERATE?
The Bike train is an opportunity to ride the train from Jim Thorpe station to White Haven, PA, and then return by bike on the trail for a 25 mile bike ride slightly downhill.
Round trip is 50 miles, the train takes 1 hour to get from downtown Jim Thorpe to White Haven and 30 minutes to unload bikes.
It takes most people 3 to 4 hours to bike the returning 25 mile trail.

+ How much are train tickets for the 25 Mile Bike train trips to White Haven?
Standard Coach (Windows):
Costs for the Bike train vary.
People can bring their own bikes for $35 one-way tickets on the train.
Or for $55 one can take the train and receive a bike rental once arriving in White Haven.
Finally, people have the option of taking the train round trip $29 per adult, $19 per child (ages 3-12), and Children 2 years and younger are free with complimentary ticket for round trip ticket.
+ What is the Santa Claus Special train?
Santa trains operate at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:30 pm from Black Friday through the weekend before Christmas out of Jim Thorpe.
Santa Claus Special pricing is $15 per adult. Children 3 to 12 are $9 each. Children 2 and under receive a free ticket.
Santa trains sometimes operate in other communities on the Reading and Northern railroad system.

Santa will visit children on the train.
A treat of either clear candy or a candy cane will be given to each child riding the train.
Christmas music is played along with limited narration on Santa Claus Special trains.
+ Is the train handicap accessible?
If you ride trains out of Jim Thorpe station, there is an ADA certified lift.
Most wheelchairs will fit inside the standard coaches.
Also, the lift can be used to place wheelchairs on the open air cars. Other locations on the railroad do not have ADA lifts.
Are there group discounts available?
Yes, to get the discount this procedure must be followed:
All group discounted tickets must be purchased in advance.
There are no group discounts given the day of riding the train.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and checks.
Payment by check must be made at least two weeks in advance.
Tickets can either be mailed or picked up the day of riding the train.
The person representing the group must have a final accurate head count when ordering tickets.
